Maltese endurance runner Zach Vella is turning the festive season into a mission of hope with his extraordinary “6×60” challenge—running 60 kilometres a day for six consecutive days to raise funds for YMCA Malta. The event, taking place from 26 to 31 December, marks the first major initiative under Vella’s new platform, Home Bound, created to support projects tackling homelessness in Malta.

The challenge aims to fund two urgent YMCA projects:

  • A semi-independent living apartment for six vulnerable individuals transitioning to independence.
  • The expansion of YMCA’s drop-in centre in Ħamrun, providing more space for counselling and essential services.

Homelessness in Malta is a growing concern, with YMCA reporting 307 new referrals in 2025 and facilities operating at full capacity. Vella hopes this endurance feat will raise awareness and inspire donations.

“This is a chance to make a real difference,” Vella said. “Even a few kilometres or a small donation can help YMCA continue its incredible work.”

The runs will be at a steady pace, welcoming participants of all levels. Routes and checkpoints will be shared daily on Instagram @homebound.mt, encouraging the public to join, donate, and spread the word.
