"When You Wear These Colours, Be Proud You Are Maltese" - Dr Lydia Abela

Dr Lydia Abela spoke during the presentation of the new Special Olympics kits ahead of the team's European Swimming Open Malta 2026 campaign, taking place in Malta between 10 and 14 September 2026.

Abela remarked that "today is a special day because in it we will be presenting the new kit of the Special Olympics which will be used by the athletes in the Special Olympics Malta European Swimming Open 2026, and which will be used in Chile next year."

She said that these events take a lot of work, and that behind these events there is a dedicated team that works everyday to make sure that the goal of Special Olympics becomes a reality.

She thanked all the people involved who worked hard to make this possible, remarking that "this dream has become a reality."

Abela addressed the athletes themselves, saying that when they put on the new kit, "I want to see you proud, proud that you are Maltese, and proud that you are representing Malta."
