WCA Maltese Championship 2026 To Bring Speed Cubing To Valletta

Speed cubing enthusiasts of all ages are set to gather in Valletta on Saturday, 26 September, for the highly anticipated WCA Maltese Championship 2026.

Organised by the Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT), with the support of APS Bank, the event will take place at the historic Aula Magna at the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus. Registration opens at 8:30am, with competitors expected to include both first-time participants and experienced local and international cubers.

The championship reflects RIDT’s ongoing commitment to promoting intellectual engagement, innovation and community-driven initiatives. APS Bank’s support further contributes to the event’s focus on youth development, education and community participation.

“We encourage everyone from curious first-time competitors to seasoned local and international cubers to register and be part of this exciting community event,” said Claudette Buttigieg, CEO of RIDT.

Benjamin Chetcuti Cauchi of the Maltese Cubing Association said the competition offers something for every participant, whether they are attempting their first official solve, aiming to achieve a personal best or competing for a national title.

Speed cubing is an internationally recognised competitive sport centred on solving combination puzzles, most famously the 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube, in the shortest possible time. Combining mathematics, spatial awareness, rapid pattern recognition and reflexes, the sport has grown into a global competitive community.
