Watch: Former Malta Waterpolo Head Coach Milan Ćirović's Comments

Former Malta Water Polo Coach Alleges Government Politicians Were Behind Betting Scandal Claims.
Former Malta national water polo coach Milan Ćirović has alleged that politicians connected to the government played a role in pushing claims of a betting and match-fixing scandal involving the national team.
Speaking in his first interview since stepping down as national coach and ASA Technical Director, Ćirović said the controversy contributed to an environment which made it increasingly difficult for him to continue in his role.
Earlier this year, media reports raised allegations of possible match-fixing involving Malta players. Subsequent investigations did not substantiate claims that players had fixed Malta national team matches, although some players admitted to betting on games that did not involve Malta.
During the interview, Ćirović reportedly accused influential individuals of being behind what he described as “fake news”. When asked whether he was referring to government or opposition politicians, he pointed towards people “who have power” and specifically referred to politicians on the government side.
Ćirović did not name any individuals, and the claims of political involvement remain his allegations.
ASA president Karl Izzo released a statement addressing the former National Team head coach’s comments, arguing that coach Milan received the association’s full support during his tenure in charge, despite external pressure faced by the national team, technical staff and athletes. Izzo shared that legitimate criticism will be heard and mistakes addressed, but warned against attempts to damage reputations through allegations or personal agendas.
The former coach, who spent three-and-a-half years within the Maltese water polo setup, also thanked ASA President Karl Izzo and the association for their support.
His full interview with Christian Micallef aired on Man Up+ on NET Television yesterday evening.
