Volleyball Marathon Raises €632,153 For Id-Dar Tal-Providenza

A total of €632,153 was raised by the end of the 53-hour BOV Volleyball Marathon, which concluded at midnight on Sunday 20 July 2025.

Forty players took part in the marathon, enduring fifty-three continuous hours of volleyball. The event began on Friday evening and was officially inaugurated by H.E. Dr Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta.

Mgr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, expressed heartfelt thanks to the people of Malta and Gozo for their generosity, as well as to the players, volunteers, organising committee, sponsors, broadcasters, performers, the police, the Armed Forces band and all those who contributed to the event’s success.

Archbishop Mgr Charles J. Scicluna celebrated Mass in the Home’s chapel, assisted by Fr Bernard Micallef and Mgr Martin Micallef. The Mass, held for the Jubilee of Sport, welcomed participants of the fun run and the volleyball marathon. The Archbishop praised their dedication, noting that sport helps promote health and quality of life, values society should embrace.

The marathon was part of the Archdiocese of Malta’s celebrations for the Great Jubilee of Hope, an occasion inviting Catholics, Christians and people of goodwill to become pilgrims of hope through acts of faith, charity and unity.

In addition to the forty players, around one hundred volunteers assisted throughout the event. Each evening featured musical entertainment, food stalls, drinks and children’s games.

The marathon was broadcast live on Malta’s main television stations, while Vibe FM served as the official radio partner.
