VICTORIA HOTSPURS REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO FAIR PLAY FOLLOWING APAP SUSPENSION

Victoria Hotspurs FC have reiterated their firm stance against the use of prohibited substances in sport following the suspension of former Malta international and club defender Ferdinando Apap.
Apap was handed a three-month ban after testing positive for cocaine in an anti-doping test conducted by the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AiMS).
The test followed the FA Trophy match against Ħamrun Spartans on 3 January, which Victoria Hotspurs lost 5-0. The results were also communicated to FIFA and UEFA.
While Apap initially contested the findings, he later provided evidence that the substance was consumed socially and out of competition.
AiMS accepted this explanation, confirming the three-month suspension, which may be reduced to one month if he completes the Substance Abuse Treatment Programme offered by Aġenzija Sedqa. Apap began serving the suspension last weekend and missed the club’s league fixture against Attard.
In a statement, Victoria Hotspurs emphasised their commitment to fair play, integrity, and a clean sporting environment. The club condemned any use of prohibited substances, while highlighting the importance of guidance, support, and rehabilitation for players who make mistakes, ensuring both the individual and the sport are protected.
