Valletta FC Calls for Fair Reform of Gate-Money System

Valletta FC has raised serious concerns about the current gate‑money distribution model, arguing that it unfairly penalises clubs that attract large crowds while rewarding those with consistently low attendance. Under the existing structure, clubs generating the majority of matchday revenue receive only a small portion of what their supporters contribute, creating a system that discourages investment in fan engagement and matchday experience.
The club is advocating for a fairer, more sustainable framework that better reflects each team’s actual contribution. The proposed model includes three key principles. First, all clubs would share basic matchday costs equally, calculated on a standard attendance of 125 supporters per side, ensuring essential expenses are covered. Second, 25% of total ticket income would be allocated to a central fund to support additional operational needs. Finally, the remaining gate money would be distributed proportionately based on each club’s real attendance figures.
Valletta FC emphasises that fairness is not about equal outcomes but about proportionate reward for contribution. By aligning revenue with actual support, the club believes the league can create stronger incentives for growth, improved matchday experiences, and a healthier football ecosystem for all participating teams.
