Valletta returned to winning form in the YoHealth Malta Premier League with a composed 2-0 victory over Gżira United at the National Stadium. Still recovering from their narrow defeat to Birkirkara, the Citizens were determined to respond, and although their performance was not sparkling, it was effective enough to secure three crucial points.

Chances were scarce early on, but Valletta made their breakthrough on 39 minutes. Ahmed Adebayo combined neatly with Yuri Messias before seeing his initial effort blocked, only to react quickest and head home the rebound. Gżira attempted to reply before the interval, with Stasa Bastic firing just over.

Valletta doubled their lead five minutes into the second half when Andrea Zammit latched onto Adebayo’s flick and calmly chipped the advancing Colombo. Gżira struggled to recover, and despite a late effort from Maxuell Maia, the Citizens remained in control. Brandon Paiber nearly added a third in stoppage time when his inswinger struck the crossbar.

In the later fixture, Ħamrun Spartans were left frustrated after being held to a goalless draw by Żabbar St Patrick. Despite dominating possession and playing the final 20 minutes against ten men following Manuel Djalo’s dismissal, the champions could not find a way past substitute goalkeeper Ignacio Colombo, who produced several key saves to secure a precious point for Żabbar.
