Team Malta ready for Backyard Ultra World Championships

Malta will be represented by a 15-strong national team when the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships get underway on Saturday, 17 October 2026, with the local event taking place at Zonqor Point, Marsaskala.

The global championship brings together national teams for a unique endurance challenge in which runners must complete a 6.706km “yard” every hour. Every completed yard earns one point for the athlete’s country, while the last runner standing in each national race is crowned National Champion. The country accumulating the most yards across its athletes will be crowned World Champion.

Team Malta will be represented by:

Simon Callus, Gianni Ciappara, Pawlu Zammit, Mark Bezzina, Robert Formosa, Maria Sultana, Sebastian Debono, Clara Attard, Kevin Casaru, Joseph Camilleri, Karl Fiteni, Nicholas Pullicino, Ray Grech, William Lewis and Miguel Mifsud.

The Maltese event starts at 2pm on 17 October, giving supporters the opportunity to gather at Zonqor Point and cheer the national team through what could become an overnight test of endurance, determination and strategy.
