Strong Performances By Maltese Bowling National Champions At ECC In Turkey

Reigning national champions Cynthia Frendo Duca and Kayden Lagana’ recently represented Malta at the European Championship of Champions (ECC) in Turkey, a competition bringing together the national bowling champions from all over Europe to determine, the new European champions in male and female categories.
Frendo Duca had a strong and steady showing in both blocks of 8 games in the singles as well as in the mixed doubles that allowed her to make the cut of 12 bowlers and progress to the finals in 11th place.
She then started off very well in the finals to climb up a number of places, though then had a couple of difficult games that pushed her back down to a still strong 9th place overall, out of 31 national champions.
Lagana’, who flew in from the USA where he has started a 4 year collegiate education at SCAD, had a tough arrival due to flight connection issues that certainly didn’t help.
Still, he had a decent first set of 8 games, a tough second set in the mixed doubles and then a very strong set of 8 games in the 2nd set of the singles, that saw him fly up the rankings all the way to 15th out of 34 national champions, just 72 pins below the cut.
The players were accompanies by National Coach Mark Spiteri and this trip was made possible thanks to the constant support from Be Active Sport Malta as well as the Maltese Olympic Committee.
