Steffi De Martino’s Legacy Celebrated as Injury Forces Early Retirement

The Malta Basketball Association has paid a heartfelt tribute to Stephanie “Steffi” De Martino, following her announcement of early retirement due to injury. Widely regarded as one of the finest players of her generation, Steffi leaves behind a remarkable legacy built on excellence, leadership, and unwavering dedication to Maltese basketball.
Over nearly twenty years, she represented Malta with distinction, collecting an impressive list of honours. Her achievements include a GSSE Gold Medal in 2017, Silver in 3x3 in 2025, and Bronze in 2015. She was instrumental in Malta’s success at the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries, securing gold in 2010, 2016, and at U18 level in 2007, alongside multiple silver and bronze medals.
Domestically, Steffi’s impact was equally profound, earning five MVP awards and 11 Player of the Month titles, underscoring her consistency and dominance.
Beyond statistics, she inspired teammates, young athletes, and the wider basketball community. While her playing career ends prematurely, the Association expressed confidence that her influence will continue in new and meaningful ways.
