Steering The Course Returns To Malta For Its Fourth Edition

The Royal Malta Yacht Club, is set to host the fourth local edition of Steering the Course, a World Sailing initiative supported by the International Olympic Committee that promotes gender equity in sailing.
Following three successful editions, the event has once again sold out, with a waiting list now open for those still hoping to participate. The programme is supported by Yachting Malta, Camilleri Marine and Boost.
Running across three afternoon sessions from 15 September, the programme will feature two training sessions followed by a final day of racing in Marsamxett Harbour. Crews will sail the Royal Malta Yacht Club’s RS Quests, with each boat accommodating an instructor and three sailors. On-land preparation will ensure participants are confident and ready before heading out onto the water.
This year’s theme, Give to Gain, echoes the message of International Women’s Day 2026, highlighting the value of support, mentorship and opportunity in helping women and girls progress in sport.
The initiative will also feature a free talk by two-time Sportswoman of the Year and Maltese Olympic Committee Hall of Fame inductee Francesca Vincenti. Titled Against the Wind: Breaking Barriers and Never Letting Go, the talk will explore her career, including her bronze medal at the 1983 Bermuda World Championship.
