Anticipation for the 2026 BOV Tazza l‑Kbira intensified as owners of the twelve finalists gathered for the official draw of starting numbers ahead of Malta’s most prestigious trotting final, set for 12 April. The annual draw, a cornerstone of fairness and transparency, plays a crucial role in shaping race strategy for the island’s most historic equestrian event.

The proceedings were overseen by Malta Equidrome CEO Dr Matthew Brincat, BOV Head of CSR Charles Azzopardi, Malta Racing Club Vice President Tony Demanuele, and EquestriMalta Chairman Dean Hili. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort behind elevating the sport and enhancing the race‑day experience for thousands of spectators.

Dr Brincat praised the exceptional level of competition, noting that twelve standout horses emerged from an initial field of sixty‑three. Mr Azzopardi reaffirmed Bank of Valletta’s long‑standing commitment to supporting national sporting traditions and excellence.

This year’s final promises a vibrant programme, including a performance by Sicilian flag‑throwing troupe Leoni Reali and a traditional parade led by 2025 champion Dats so Cool. Drivers and owners will also be presented on a variety of horse‑drawn carriages and karozzini.
