Special Olympics Malta athlete Jake Gatt completes first half marathon in outstanding 1:36

Special Olympics Malta athlete Jake Gatt delivered an inspiring performance at the Malta Half Marathon, completing the 21km distance in an impressive 1 hour and 36 minutes. His achievement stands as a powerful example of what determination, opportunity, and belief can make possible.
Gatt’s run reflects the core values of Special Olympics Malta, where athletes are supported to push boundaries, grow in confidence, and reach their full potential. His dedication throughout training paid off on race day, showcasing both his physical ability and his mental strength.
A key part of Jake’s journey has been the guidance of coach Amanda Farrugia, who has believed in him from the very beginning and consistently encouraged him to aim higher. He also benefited from the support of mainstream coach Fabio Spiteri, who ran the entire half marathon alongside him a true demonstration of Unified Sport, where athletes with and without intellectual disabilities compete together.
