During the official launch, Mr Jesmond Aquilina, President of the Southern Region Council, emphasised how the event has grown into a key fixture in the regional calendar. He noted that the initiative not only celebrates the sport of horse racing but also fosters unity and participation among the region’s localities, while encouraging families to attend outdoor sporting and cultural activities.
Also addressing the launch were Mr Tony Demanuele, Vice-Chairman of the Malta Racing Club, Dr Matthew Brincat, CEO of Malta Equidrome, and Mr Max Zammit, CEO of EquestriMalta. All took the opportunity to congratulate the participating owners and highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions to continue elevating the standard and profile of horse racing in Malta.
Representatives from the participating local councils are once again expected to take an active role in supporting their assigned horses, contributing to the lively and festive atmosphere that has become synonymous with this event.
A strong turnout is anticipated, particularly from supporters keen to cheer on the horse representing their locality. The Southern Region Local Councils’ Race continues to establish itself as a distinctive event that successfully combines sporting excellence with community spirit.
