Shaun Chircop Enters Unique Club With Move to English Rugby League

Malta Knights international Shaun Chircop has written his name into Maltese rugby league history after becoming only the second domestic player to sign for a club in England. The 24‑year‑old Balzan native, who made his Malta debut in 2018 against Ukraine, has joined Eastern Rhinos Rugby League Club, competing in the Southern Conference League.
Chircop relocated to England last month and has already settled into his new environment, living with one of the Rhinos’ Australian players. Despite the colder climate, he says training has been intense but rewarding, praising the club’s warm welcome and the commitment of the coaching staff. He highlighted their willingness to support his development, recalling how a coach joined him for extra training on a free weekend.
A five‑time Maltese international, Chircop now has his sights set on earning his Rhinos debut in a trial match against West’s Warriors at the end of February. Determined to seize the opportunity, he expressed his desire to represent Malta with pride abroad, adding that he hopes to make his family and the Maltese rugby league community proud.
Chircop’s move marks another significant step forward for Maltese talent breaking into the international rugby league scene.
