Seven Maltese Clubs Secure UEFA Licences Ahead of European Campaigns

Seven Maltese clubs have been granted a UEFA club licence, confirming their eligibility to compete in European competitions and underlining continued progress in standards of governance and development across local football.
Introduced in 2004, the UEFA club licensing system sets out a series of requirements that clubs must meet in areas such as sporting structure, infrastructure, administration, and financial management. Over the years, it has become a key benchmark for professionalism and long-term sustainability, while also aligning with the strategic objectives of national associations.
Six men’s clubs awarded the licence this year are Birkirkara FC, Floriana FC, Gżira United FC, Ħamrun Spartans FC, Marsaxlokk FC, and Valletta FC. Their inclusion reflects consistent compliance with UEFA’s strict criteria and positions them to represent Malta on the European stage.
Joining them is Mġarr United FC Women’s Team, which has also secured a licence and is set to represent Malta in the 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League. Their qualification highlights the growing strength and recognition of women’s football within the country.
