San Ġwann Football Ground Inaugurated After €200,000 Upgrade

The football ground in San Ġwann has been officially inaugurated following a €200,000 investment aimed at improving the sports facility for students, young people and the wider community.

The project, carried out by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS) in collaboration with the Ministry for Justice, Research and Innovation and the San Ġwann Local Council, covered approximately 4,500 square metres. The works included the installation of new synthetic turf and the replacement of the perimeter fencing, providing improved and safer conditions for those using the facility.

The ground was inaugurated by Minister for Education and Sport Byron Camilleri and Minister for Justice, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima. Camilleri highlighted the importance of sports facilities in schools, saying that sport contributes to children’s overall development by promoting discipline, teamwork and perseverance.

At the same time, investment in sport in San Ġwann is also being supported through innovation. The local football club has benefited from funding to acquire modern match-analysis equipment. The technology is expected to strengthen performance analysis and support the technical development of teams and players.

San Ġwann Local Council Sports Councillor Trevor Fenech said the renovated ground would continue to play an important role in the community, encouraging more children and young people to participate in sport.

The project forms part of a wider FTS programme, which invested around €1.34 million in sports facilities across schools during 2025, with further upgrades planned in several localities.
