San Ġiljan Secure Waterpolo Winter League After Beating Sliema

San Ġiljan reclaimed their dominance in Maltese waterpolo by defeating rivals Sliema in a penalty shoot-out to win the BOV Winter League.

After missing out on major titles last summer, the Saints bounced back to finish six points ahead of Sliema, who had won the Enemed Cup earlier this year.

With just three points separating the teams before the final match, San Ġiljan needed a draw to secure the title.

They led 6-5 at halftime and extended the gap to 10-6 in the third quarter. Sliema fought back to level the score at 11-11, and the match ended 12-12, enough for San Ġiljan to be crowned champions before the shoot-out.

In penalties, San Ġiljan emerged victorious 16-14. The trophy was presented by BOV COO Ernest Agius and ASA president Karl Izzo.
