Mohamed Salah has publicly criticised Liverpool manager Arne Slot after being left on the bench for a third consecutive game, raising questions over his future at Anfield. The Egyptian forward did not feature in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Leeds and suggested he could leave the club after the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“I’m very, very disappointed. I have done so much for this club over the years, especially last season,” Salah said. “Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus. It seems someone wanted me to take all the blame.”

Salah, Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer with 250 goals in 420 appearances, has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League since joining in 2017. This season, however, he has struggled, scoring just five times in 19 appearances as Liverpool have won only two of their last 10 league games, slipping to eighth in the table.

Slot defended his decision, saying benching Salah was tactical to control the game against Leeds.

The 33-year-old has long been linked with the Saudi Pro League, which could become a likely destination during the January transfer window, despite signing a two-year contract in April. Salah hinted he would cherish his final Anfield appearance before departing for AFCON.
