Maltese champions Qormi Daikin and GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks both reached the finals of their respective European competitions.

In Slovenia, Qormi Daikin booked their place in the final of the Euro Hockey Club Challenge I after defeating Ukraine’s Olimpia-Vinnitsa 3-2. Since Olimpia-Vinnitsa lost both of their matches in the group, Qormi automatically secured qualification for the final, as the top two teams in the group advance to the decisive match. Today, the team led by Andre Ghio will play their second match against Predanovski at 4:45pm.

Meanwhile, GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks achieved a dramatic qualification for the final of the EuroHockey Club Challenge II currently taking place in Toruń, Poland.

At the end of the group stage, Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks, Hungary’s Soroksári and Lithuania’s HC Šiauliai all finished level on points and goal difference. Furthermore, both Żurrieq and Soroksári had identical records of seven goals scored and eight conceded.

Qualification was therefore decided by the number of field goals scored, a criteria which favoured the Maltese side and secured their place in the final.
