Pro Palestine Protest As Ħamrun Spartans Face Maccabi FC

A pro-Palestine protest is currently taking place at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Paola as Ħamrun Spartans are set to face against Israel’s MaccabiTel Aviv F.C.

The match had drawn some criticism and calls for boycotts due to the ongoing conflict the region.

Ħamrun Spartans Football Club also issued a statement today ahead of the game, urging for proper behaviour at the stadium.

‘We believe that our supporters are exemplary and should use their energy to encourage and support the players’, said the team in a statement.

A protest was called for by Ġustizzja għall-Palestina, backed by other activist groups, calling the match going forward a ‘local concern’ as ‘Maccabi fans have been linked to violent and provocative behaviour in past away matches.’
