PRIME MINISTER ROBERT ABELA VISITS UPGRADED HORSE RACING TRACK AHEAD OF REOPENING

Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, visited the final works at the Marsa horse racing track ahead of its reopening for the upcoming championship. The project forms part of the government’s commitment to enhance Malta’s sports infrastructure and deliver world-class facilities.
Abela emphasized the importance of horse racing in Malta and noted that the regeneration of the Marsa track fulfills a key pledge in the government’s work program. The upgraded venue now boasts international-standard facilities for racing and training, ensuring safety and performance for both horses and riders.
The track, designed by Maltese architect Edwin Mintoff under the guidance of Swedish architect Lars Sandstrom, features a one-kilometer circuit built for greater speed and spectacle. Improvements include a new lighting system for evening training, reinforced railings for safety, and layered surfaces of stone and sand for optimal racing conditions. The surrounding area has also been revitalized with new tree planting.
Abela thanked all those involved and expressed confidence that the upcoming championship will showcase the highest level of competition in a modern, secure environment.
