Paul Ferrante appointed Malta men’s national basketball head coach

The Malta Basketball Association has confirmed Paul Ferrante as the new Head Coach of the Men’s National Team, replacing Duncan Fenech after his two‑year tenure. The association stated that Ferrante was chosen following a thorough evaluation process, citing his extensive experience, technical ability and strong record at club level.

MBA President Paul Sultana praised Ferrante’s vision and leadership, noting that discussions quickly showed he possessed the motivation and expertise needed to guide the national side forward. Sultana highlighted Ferrante’s consistent success in Maltese basketball, where he has led three clubs to seven senior league titles, five Super Cups, four Knock‑Out trophies and five Shields, along with five Under‑23 championships.

Ferrante also brings international experience, having coached Maltese youth teams in FIBA tournaments in Kosovo and San Marino in 2018, as well as earlier roles at the FISEC Games and Jeux des Îles. Away from the court, he has spent 34 years working as an educator.

He assumes his new role with immediate effect and will oversee preparations for the 2026 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries in Gibraltar this June.
