Nicolai Mallia Claims Back‑to‑Back Bronze at European Youth Championships

Nicolai Mallia delivered another outstanding performance on the continental stage, winning bronze at the European Youth Championships in Berlin, repeating last year’s success in Turkey. His consistency and composure once again placed Malta firmly on the European bowling map.
Mallia dominated his qualifying squad with a superb 1408 series, averaging 234.7 to secure third place overall after six games. Only Denmark’s Tobias Kastfelt Bryde and Czech bowler Jaroslav Zapletal finished ahead of him, while France’s Thomas Carre Layme claimed the final qualifying spot from a field of 112 youths.
In the semi‑final, Mallia faced Zapletal in a tightly contested match. The duel remained close until the final frames, where the Czech edged ahead, winning 227–194. Mallia nonetheless earned a prestigious bronze medal, while Zapletal went on to take gold after defeating Carre Layme 233–200 in the final.
Other Maltese competitors also performed admirably: Kayden Laganà finished 23rd with a strong 213 average, Tomas Caruso placed 66th, Samuel Caruso 85th, and Celianne Micallef secured 52nd in the girls’ division.
Malta’s participation was made possible through the support of BeActive‑SportMalta, continuing to foster youth sporting excellence.
