The athletics season is gaining momentum as Athletics Malta hosted its second Pre‑Season Meet at the Marsa track, featuring a full programme and a strong turnout across all events. Despite the early stage of the season, athletes delivered standout performances, including two national youth records set by La Salle competitors. Matteo Gauci broke the U16 1000m record with a time of 2:38.92, while Matthew Azzopardi set a new U18 mark in the 600m, clocking 1:22.78.

Sprints attracted significant participation, with Pembroke Athleta’s Jorrin Busuttil leading the men’s 60m in 7.06s, followed closely by Rush AC’s Luca Gerada. Busuttil also topped the 300m in 34.81s. Veteran sprinter Rachid Chouhal added another highlight, setting a national M50 record of 7.51s in the 60m.

In the women’s events, 37 athletes lined up for the 60m, where Claire Azzopardi dominated with a swift 7.60s before also winning the 300m in 40.01s. Additional records included Neil Brimmer’s M40 600m best of 1:27.76.

Maltese athletes competing abroad also shone. Charlotte Wingfield posted 7.64s in Wales, while in the United States, Jeremy Zammit jumped 7.46m and Mireya Bugeja ran 9:50.26 in the 3000m. Rebecca Sare added international success with long jump gold in Abu Dhabi.

These results signal a strong and promising start for Maltese athletics.
