Nathan Mifsud produced a courageous performance at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships in Pristina, Kosovo, overcoming severe illness to secure a commendable 9th‑place finish in the 65kg category.

Mifsud began the Snatch segment confidently, lifting 96kg on his opener before successfully progressing to 100kg. In the Clean & Jerk, he showed further strength, opening at 117kg and pushing through to 122kg, closing his competition with a 222kg total.

What made his showing particularly impressive was the adversity he faced in the hours leading up to the event. Mifsud was struck by a gastrointestinal virus just one day before stepping onto the platform, leaving his participation in doubt. Despite the setback, he demonstrated exceptional determination and mental resilience, choosing to compete and delivering a performance that reflected both discipline and character.

His effort stands as another positive milestone for the Malta Weightlifting Association, reinforcing the value of continued investment in youth development and international exposure. Mifsud’s display in Pristina highlights the growing depth of Maltese weightlifting and the promising future of its next generation of athletes.
