Nathan Mifsud secures 8th place at U17 World Championships

Nathan Mifsud delivered a landmark performance for Maltese weightlifting at the Youth U17 World Championships in Cali, Colombia, finishing 8th in the Snatch and 9th overall Malta’s best-ever male youth result at world level. At just 16, Mifsud showed remarkable composure on his global debut, opening with a flawless series of three successful Snatch attempts, culminating in a 106kg lift. This achievement shattered the national Youth, Junior, and Senior records in the 65kg category, underlining his exceptional potential.
He continued his strong form in the Clean & Jerk, lifting 121kg to reach a 227kg total, setting yet another national record. His performance marks a significant milestone for Maltese weightlifting, reflecting both his talent and the growing strength of the sport locally.
This participation was made possible through the support of SportMalta and the Malta Olympic Committee, whose backing continues to elevate young Maltese athletes onto international platforms. Mifsud’s next challenge will be the European U17 Championships in Kosovo, where he aims to build on this impressive breakthrough.
