Mtarfa FC at Breaking Point After Years Without a Permanent Home

Mtarfa FC is warning that the club has reached breaking point after years of operating without a permanent football ground and adequate premises in its own locality.
The club’s difficulties date back several years, following the loss of the facilities it previously used at the former government secondary school. The site was subsequently concessioned for the development of Haileybury’s Mtarfa campus, leaving the club without a permanent replacement.
In May 2021, the government announced an agreement aimed at providing Rabat Ajax and Mtarfa FC with their respective football grounds. The agreement included works by the Public Works Department on the sports facilities, while financial support was also announced for alternative training arrangements.
Despite that announcement, Mtarfa FC says the promised solution remains unresolved more than five years later. The club claims that repeated meetings and warnings about the financial strain of operating without its own facilities have failed to produce a lasting solution.
The Malta Football Association lists Angelo Borg as Mtarfa FC president.
The club also points to its sporting achievements during this difficult period, including two promotions and continued survival at a higher competitive level.
Mtarfa FC is now calling on the authorities to deliver the promised facilities, provide a clear timetable and offer practical support before the club’s long-running struggle threatens its future.
