The opening ceremony of the 12th Small States of Europe Karate Championships was held this morning at the Cottonera Sports Complex, in the presence of Minister for Sport Byron Camilleri.

The ceremony marked a key moment in the three-day international competition, taking place in Malta from October 9 to 11, bringing together eight national teams and 219 competitors from across Europe’s smaller states.

The championship features athletes competing in kata and kumite across various age categories, showcasing technical ability, discipline and sporting spirit.

Minister Camilleri’s attendance highlighted the importance of international sporting events in Malta and the country’s role in welcoming athletes and delegations from abroad.

The competition continued throughout the day, with athletes contesting individual categories and competing for medals at the venue.
