MFA Takes Precautionary Action Following Court Decision on Player Case

The Malta Football Association has temporarily suspended Jurgen Pisani following a Criminal Court decision related to alleged match manipulation in the 2024 Premier League fixture between Santa Lucia and Birkirkara. Although the ruling is not yet final and remains subject to appeal, the MFA’s Ethics and Compliance Committee recommended precautionary suspension in line with its Reputational Risk Management Policy. The Association emphasised that this measure is not disciplinary but intended to safeguard the integrity of the game until judicial proceedings conclude.

Addressing members, the MFA President reflected on months of intense work across sporting, technical, and governance sectors. While recent international results fell short of expectations, he highlighted progress made in previous cycles, including improved performances, promotions in the women’s game, and futsal qualification milestones. He confirmed that a full technical review is underway, alongside long‑planned reforms in youth development structures.

The President also underlined major governance achievements, financial recovery after pandemic‑era losses, and continued investment in infrastructure, including the National Football Centre and plans for a new national stadium. He reaffirmed the MFA’s commitment to transparency, stronger competitive structures, and long‑term sustainability for Maltese football.
