MFA Endorses New Policy Supporting Sustainable Sports Facility Development

The Malta Football Association (MFA) has expressed strong support for the new policy introduced by the Ministry and the Planning Authority aimed at strengthening the framework for the sustainable development of sports facilities across the country. The initiative, which aligns with the Commercialisation of Sports Facilities Regulations (S.L. 455.12), provides sports organisations with clearer planning guidance while safeguarding the primary purpose of sporting venues.
For years, the MFA has advocated for measures that help clubs and sports entities upgrade their infrastructure, enhance community services, and secure long-term operational sustainability. The Association emphasised that improved facilities are essential not only for athlete development but also for strengthening the wider sporting ecosystem.
The MFA also highlighted the value of ongoing collaboration with the Ministry and relevant authorities in shaping policies that support the growth of Maltese sport. It welcomed the structured approach offered by the new framework, which balances development opportunities with the need to preserve sports integrity.
As the public consultation process continues, the Malta FA is encouraging all stakeholders including clubs, associations, and community representatives to actively participate. The Association believes that collective input will help ensure that Malta continues to invest in modern, sustainable, and accessible sporting environments for future generations.
