Matthew Debattista And James Vella Join Naxxar Lions Football Club

Naxxar Lions FC have signed 24 year-old Matthew Debattista and 22 year-old James Vella ahead of their first season back in the Challenge League.

Matthew Debattista joins from Hibernians FC after winning the Super Cup with the Paolites last season. The Melita academy starts another chapter in the Challenge League after also playing for Swieqi United FC during the first half of the past season.

Matthew was named MFPA best Challenge League player for the 2023/2024 season, proving to be one of the more important pieces of the puzzle in Melita's Challenge League win and promotion to Malta's top flight.

James Vella joins the club on loan from Sliema Wanderers FC, after spending last season with Malta Premier League side Marsaxlokk FC, which narrowly missed out on the league title after losing to Floriana FC 2-1 in the final.

The San Ġwann academy product also played for Swieqi United FC, and won the Challenge League with Sliema Wanderers during the 2023/2024 season, with both players winning their fair share of honours heading into their new chapter in the career.
