Marsaxlokk set for European test against Pyunik tonight

Marsaxlokk will be back on the European stage this evening as they host Armenian side Pyunik in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round at the Centenary Stadium. The match, scheduled for 19:00, marks the club’s sixth appearance in UEFA competitions, with the ambition of progressing to the second round for the first time in their history.
Coach Enzo Potenza enters the tie with renewed optimism following a productive pre-season and several key signings, including goalkeeper Andrea Cassar, defender Oleksiy Bykov, midfielder Lucas Caruana and forward Matheus Silva. The squad blends new arrivals with established figures such as Christoffer Mafoumbi, Joseph Minala and Leandro Aguirre, forming a balanced unit ready for the challenge.
Pyunik, boasting significantly more European experience, present a stern test. Potenza acknowledged their pedigree but emphasised his team’s unity, preparation and determination to impose their game. With Marsaxlokk coming off a strong domestic season that saw them reach the Finalissima, tonight’s encounter offers a chance to build momentum and write a new chapter in the club’s continental ambitions.
