Marsa FC Issues Strong Statement After 13‑point Deduction

Marsa FC has issued a forceful statement following the MFA Appeals Board’s decision to uphold a 13‑point deduction for financial irregularities amounting to around €67,000 a sum the club says has now been fully settled. The Appeals Board, composed of Nick Xuereb, Dr David Fabri and Shaun Camilleri, confirmed the original ruling earlier this week.
In its statement, Marsa FC argued that small clubs should not be left to navigate complex administrative and legal procedures alone, especially when run almost entirely by volunteers. The club stressed that it currently has no outstanding debts with tax authorities, suppliers, staff, coaches or players, yet will still begin the new season with a significant handicap.
Marsa FC called for a more proportionate system that balances regulation with practical support, including administrative and legal assistance for clubs facing disciplinary proceedings. The club insisted it is not seeking favours, but fairness, proportionality and common sense, emphasising that Maltese football survives thanks to volunteers who dedicate personal time and resources to keep clubs functioning.
