Perit Mark Borg, President of the Malta Futsal Association, has been appointed as a UEFA delegate for the 2026 UEFA Futsal European Championship Finals — a landmark achievement for Maltese futsal and Maltese sport.

The tournament, scheduled between 21 January and 7 February 2026, will be jointly hosted by Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia. Borg has been entrusted with overseeing Group D, which includes Italy, Hungary, Poland and reigning champions Portugal, with all matches taking place in Ljubljana.

In his role, Borg will supervise the full organisation of match operations, ensuring strict compliance with UEFA regulations. His responsibilities range from venue infrastructure and medical services to operational coordination and match-day management, working alongside an experienced UEFA team.

This appointment marks the first time a Maltese official has been selected for such a high-profile role at the final stage of a European futsal championship. It reflects the growing international respect for Maltese futsal and the strong development structures in place.

Borg, who has led the Malta Futsal Association for 13 years, described the appointment as a great honour for himself and Maltese sport. He noted that Malta’s rising reputation has been further strengthened by the recent appointment of Dr Paris to the UEFA Futsal Committee.
