Maltese Table Football Team Secures Four Medals At Paris World Cup

The Maltese Table Football team produced an impressive performance at the World Cup in Paris, France, competing against players from 28 countries and returning home with one silver and three bronze medals.

Mark Gauci claimed silver in the Open Category after reaching the final, where he lost 3–1 to Spain’s Carlos Flores. Gauci defeated 2024 world champion Dimitri Dimopoulos 2–1 in the quarter-finals before beating Samuel Bartolo 2–0 in the semi-finals. Bartolo secured bronze after also enjoying a strong tournament, including a 3–2 extra-time victory over Italy’s Mato Ciccarelli.

Jurgen Balzan reached the Open Round of 16, while George Ebejer progressed to the Round of 32. In the Veterans Category, Charles Aquilina reached the quarter-finals after defeating Germany’s Frank Stiller 4–1, while John Zammit and Jason Pisani reached the Round of 16. Patrick Pace exited at the group stage.

Malta also secured bronze medals in both the Open and Veteran Team Categories. The Open team recorded 4–0 victories over Scotland, Ireland and Australia before overcoming Greece in the quarter-finals. Italy ended their run with a 4–0 semi-final victory.

The Veteran team topped its group with wins over Japan and Spain and defeated England 2–1 in the quarter-finals before narrowly losing to Greece in the semi-finals.
