Maltese Striker William James England Scores For Dutch Side Legmeervogels

Maltese forward William James England has opened his competitive account in the Netherlands, scoring to put Legmeervogels 2-1 ahead in their KNVB district cup tie against s.v. Houten at Sportpark De Randhoorn in Uithoorn earlier this month.

The 22-year-old joined the Dutch club this summer on a one-year contract and wears the number 9. Legmeervogels compete in the Eerste Klasse, the top district division of the Dutch Saturday pyramid, having climbed two divisions in recent seasons under trainer-coach Jack Honsbeek.

England had already marked himself out in pre-season. He scored twice on his first appearance for the club, against S.V. De Meer on 8 August, and found the net again three days later against Telstar Under-21s, giving him three goals in his opening two friendlies in Dutch football.

England spent 13 years at Luxol St Andrew's, coming through every age group at the club before breaking into the senior side. He captained the youth team in his final season there, finishing with more than 30 goal involvements and a win in the youth knockout competition in 2024/25.

Spells at Tarxien and Birzebbuga St Peter's followed, giving him senior football at
three Maltese clubs before the move abroad.

Reflecting on the move, England remarked that "moving to the Netherlands is a big step and something I have worked towards for a long time. Leaving Malta and everything I know behind was not an easy decision, but it felt like the right time to challenge myself. I am grateful to Legmeervogels for the opportunity and I
want to keep developing here."
