Maltese athletes Luke Micallef and Simon Spiteri produced an impressive performance in Italy last Sunday, securing a memorable one-two finish at the Telesio 10K.

The well-established race, recognised by World Athletics, attracted more than 500 competitors from Italy and beyond, providing a strong international field for the two Maltese runners.

Micallef led the way, crossing the finish line in an excellent 30 minutes and 14 seconds to claim victory. Spiteri followed closely behind, recording a time of 30:54 to secure second place.

The result represents a notable achievement for Maltese athletics, with the pair dominating a challenging 10-kilometre course and placing Malta at the forefront of an internationally recognised road race.

The athletes competed in a personal capacity rather than as members of an official national team. As a result, no formal national-team press release was issued for the event.

Nevertheless, the quality of the competition and the significance of a Maltese one-two finish make the performance worthy of recognition.

The result further underlines the growing competitiveness of Maltese distance runners and provides another encouraging international result for the sport.
