Maltese Referees Shine in Sweden with Triple Final Appointments

Three Maltese basketball referees have achieved a significant milestone after attending a prestigious international referee clinic in Sweden, where all three were selected to officiate final‑round games. The appointments mark an important moment not only for the officials themselves but also for Maltese basketball, which continues to gain visibility on the European stage.
Miguel Pablo De Flavia, aged 21 and already in his fifth year of refereeing, was chosen to officiate the U17 boys’ final. Widely regarded as one of Malta’s brightest young officials, De Flavia has overseen more than 350 games across all categories, including major domestic finals such as the Super Cup, Shield and Knockout.
Jacques Seifert, 25, was appointed to the U16 boys’ final. Despite being only in his second year of basketball officiating, Seifert brings extensive international experience from volleyball and a strong sporting background in handball. His rapid rise has already seen him take charge of key second‑division finals and a recent first‑division men’s semifinal.
Andre Attard, also 21 and in his fifth year as a referee, was selected for the U15 boys’ final. Attard has quickly established himself as another promising talent, having officiated the first‑division women’s Super Cup and multiple second‑division finals.
Their collective success in Sweden stands as a proud moment for Maltese officiating and a testament to the growing quality of local referees.
