Maltese Referee Ishmael Barbara Leads Officials in UEFA Conference League Appointment

Maltese FIFA referee Ishmael Barbara was entrusted with a prestigious European appointment after being selected by UEFA to officiate a 2025/26 UEFA Conference League league phase encounter between Finnish side KuPS Kuopio and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

The Matchday One fixture took place at the Tammelan Stadion in Tampere, Finland, providing another important opportunity for Maltese match officials to showcase their abilities on the international stage.

Barbara was assisted by fellow Maltese officials Luke Portelli and Duncan Spencer, who served as assistant referees, while Slobodan Petrovic completed the on-field officiating team as fourth official.

The Video Assistant Referee duties were assigned to Italian official Gianluca Aureliano, with compatriot Daniele Paterna appointed as Assistant Video Assistant Referee.
