Maltese powerboat teams delivered outstanding performances at the prestigious Centomiglia Del Lario race on Lake Como, Italy, over the weekend. The 76th edition of the event faced multiple delays due to adverse weather, but Maltese competitors rose to the challenge and showcased their skill on the international stage.

Team Chaudron, led by Aaron Ciantar with co-pilot Jurgen Barbara, dominated the V-Hull category and went on to secure Overall honours, cementing their reputation as world-class contenders. Fellow Maltese outfit Team Cutting Edge, captained by Steve Bezzina, finished second in the V-Hull class and claimed fourth place overall. Team Zulu, piloted by Beppe Debono, also competed but was forced to retire due to mechanical issues.

The race was not without drama, as two boats capsized during the competition, prompting red flags and leading organisers to nullify the race for record purposes. Despite this, podium celebrations proceeded, highlighting the resilience and determination of all participants.

Maltese teams’ success at Lake Como underscores their growing influence in the sport and their ability to thrive under challenging conditions.
