Maltese Players Shine at Torneo dello Stretto

Maltese badminton players enjoyed an outstanding showing at the Torneo dello Stretto, returning home with an impressive collection of medals across singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.

Diego Scalvini was the standout performer, claiming a remarkable three gold medals. He won the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles titles before completing his treble by partnering Elenia Haber to victory in the Mixed Doubles.

Haber also enjoyed a memorable tournament, securing gold in the Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles alongside Lauren Azzopardi, in addition to her Mixed Doubles triumph with Scalvini.

Azzopardi collected three medals, taking bronze in the Women’s Singles, gold in the Women’s Doubles and bronze in the Mixed Doubles with Juan Casaru. Casaru was runner-up in the U19 Boys’ Singles and also claimed bronze in the Mixed Doubles.

Monique Monika Vella earned bronze in the U17 Girls’ Singles and silver in the U17 Girls’ Doubles with Julia Galea, who also won the U15 Girls’ Singles title.

Galea’s victory added another gold to an impressive tournament for the Maltese contingent, with the players producing strong performances throughout the competition.
