Maltese Minors Section A Takes Spotlight On Monday Evening

Maltese football kept up its momentum after a spectacular weekend of FA Trophy action, as Section A Minors football returned on Monday evening with some blockbuster clashes at both ends of the table.
The opening match featured two sides fighting in the bottom six, Floriana and Ħamrun Spartans. It was an end-to-end encounter, with Jakob Cioffi putting Floriana ahead in the 20th minute. However, their lead was short-lived as Essien Borg equalised for Ħamrun just nine minutes later.
Moments before half-time, Scott Camilleri gave the Spartans a crucial lead, heading into the break in ideal fashion. Ħamrun looked set to secure their fourth win of the season, but late drama struck when they conceded a penalty in the dying minutes. Denzel Attard stepped up in the 89th minute to rescue a point for Floriana.
The second fixture at the Centenary Stadium saw league leaders Valletta face fourth-placed Naxxar Lions, with the match continuing the same high-tempo trend.
After a relatively quiet start, the game came to life late in the first half. Valletta opened the scoring in the 37th minute through a Matteo Paolo Grech penalty, before doubling their advantage just three minutes later via Thomas Mellilo. Naxxar responded quickly, with Owen Portelli pulling one back in the 43rd minute through yet another penalty.
In the second half, Valletta asserted control and sealed the win early on, as Matteo Paolo Grech grabbed his second goal of the match in the 52nd minute, securing both his brace and another important victory for his side.
This crucial win for Valletta now means that they are only one point away from securing the league title after a season battling it out against Pieta and Melita.
These exciting matches and standout performances continue to highlight the strength of Maltese youth football, encouraging fans to not only follow the senior game but also show support for youth competitions throughout the week.
