Maltese Horses and Drivers Head to Sicily for Ippodromo del Mediterraneo 30th Anniversary Races

On 8 December, the Ippodromo del Mediterraneo in Sicily will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a major day of racing, featuring significant participation from Maltese drivers, owners, and horses. The Malta Racing Club, with the continued support of EquestiMalta, has enabled Maltese representatives to compete on the international stage.
Maltese trotting takes centre stage in Syracuse, with participants in three of the six races on the card, beginning with the fourth race. Tony Demanuele will represent Malta in the final leg of the Mediterranean Horseracing Union’s Drivers Championship. Demanuele brings extensive international experience, having previously competed in this championship and represented Malta in multiple European events alongside Julian Farrugia, Charles Camilleri, and Paul Galea.
Maltese owners will also compete in the Islands Championship, matching five Maltese horses and drivers against five Sicilian rivals in the fifth race. Malta’s entries include Summerrazz (Paul Galea), Ex Aequo de Cosse (Noel Baldacchino), Carbonfiber (Charles Degiorgio), Fakir de Gesvres (Charles Camilleri), and King of Greenwood (Kurt Saliba).
The day concludes with DJ Spritz, recently relocated from Sweden, contesting the prestigious Group 3 Città di Siracusa race with Rodney Gatt in the sulky for a EUR 37,400 prize. The Malta Racing Club and EquestiMalta wish all Maltese participants success in this international meeting.
