MALTESE CYCLISTS CONQUER EVERESTING CHALLENGE IN MĠARR

Two Maltese athletes, James Camilleri and Christopher Vella, etched their names in endurance history on Sunday, 7th December 2025, by conquering the Everesting challenge, one of the most demanding feats in cycling. Everesting requires riders to ascend and descend the same hill repeatedly until they reach the elevation of Mount Everest: 8,848 metres.
The duo tackled San Martin Hill in Mġarr, looping it 83 times over 22 grueling hours, half of which were spent in darkness. Their effort covered an astonishing 300 km, supported by a small but dedicated group of family and friends. Both cyclists are part of Team Fabio, led by renowned ultra-triathlete Fabio Spiteri, who praised their resilience: “It’s such a pleasure witnessing athletes grow both physically and mentally.”
Camilleri, a seasoned triathlete, capped off a stellar year that included an Ironman personal best and a Double Ironman podium finish. His first Everesting attempt in 2022 ended in disappointment, but perseverance paid off this time. Vella, who began cycling in 2022, overcame a serious leg injury earlier this year to achieve his dream, following notable performances in Switzerland and Sicily.
Their achievement marks a milestone for Maltese endurance sports, proving that determination can scale even the highest peaks.
