Maltese athletes delivered a series of impressive performances abroad over the weekend, continuing to showcase the nation’s growing strength in athletics on the international stage.

Jared Micallef produced a standout performance in Australia, clocking 1:47.18 in the 800m at the Adelaide Invitational. His time secured the Minimum Qualifying Standards for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this July, as well as the Athletics Championships for the Small States of Europe. The result adds to an already strong season for Micallef, coming just weeks after he set a national record in the 1000m.

In the United States, Rachela Pace impressed in the long jump at the 2026 UTSA Invitational held at the Park West Athletic Center in San Antonio, Texas. She recorded a jump of 6.03m, assisted by a +3.5m/s wind, showing promising early-season form as the national record holder.

Meanwhile, Gina McNamara competed at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, where she ran the 1500m in 4:30.19 against a highly competitive international field.

Athletics action is set to return to Malta this weekend, with the first Challenge Meeting of the season giving local fans the opportunity to watch the country’s top athletes compete on home soil.
