The National Athletics Championships, held at the Marsa Athletics Track and organised by Athletics Malta, brought Malta’s track and field season to an exciting close.

Over three days, 164 athletes competed in a packed schedule that highlighted both seasoned competitors and rising stars.

Beppe Grillo maintained his sprinting supremacy with a 100m win in 10.47s, ahead of Omar El Aida Chaffey and Luke Bezzina.

In the women’s 100m, 17-year-old Thea Parnis Coleiro broke the Under-18 Championship record with a time of 11.83s and later secured the 200m title in 24.33s. Matthew Galea Soler of La Salle took gold in both the 200m (21.75s) and 400m (47.63s).

Middle-distance standout Gina McNamara dominated the 800m and 1500m, setting a Championship Record of 2:05.41 in the former.

Isaac Bonnici impressed with a win in the men’s 800m. Dillon Cassar claimed his sixth consecutive 5000m title and added the 1500m to his tally. Luke Micallef won the 3000m steeplechase, while Thomas Grech set new Under-20 and Under-23 records.

In the field events, Rachela Pace triumphed in both long and triple jumps, the latter with a Championship Record of 12.93m.

Bradley Mifsud excelled in the discus, shot put, and javelin. Bianca Shoemake set an Under-18 national record in the hammer throw, and Kareem Luca Chouhal led the men’s competition.
