Malta Women’s Beach Handball Team Honoured with Fair Play Award

The Malta Women’s Beach Handball National Team has been named the recipient of the Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) Fair Play Award for the April-June quarter, in recognition of their outstanding sportsmanship and conduct.
The award, presented by the MSJA in collaboration with the Malta Fair Play Movement and Together Gaming, celebrates individuals and teams who demonstrate integrity, respect for opponents and officials, and a commitment to fair competition.
The Maltese team earned the recognition following their participation in the 2026 Calise Cup in Gaeta, Italy, where they were also presented with the tournament’s Fair Play Award. Malta finished sixth overall after a strong campaign, which began with a convincing 2-0 victory over Beach Handball Tilburg of the Netherlands, winning both sets 23-10 and 22-10.
The team then faced tough opposition from Great Britain, Portugal and Cyprus before ending the tournament with another 2-0 victory, this time against Italy’s Colosseum Handball Women.
The Calise Cup followed the squad’s participation in the EBT Lupa Beach Cup in Hungary, providing valuable international experience ahead of next year’s Mediterranean Beach Games.
Together Gaming CEO Edward Licari congratulated the team, praising their exemplary sportsmanship and dedication to the values of fairness and respect in sport.
