Malta Win Crucial Match Against Slovenia To Secure Historic 13th Place

Malta’s national water polo team achieved a historic milestone by defeating Slovenia in a crucial match, securing their best-ever performance at a European Championship with a 13th-place finish out of 16 teams.
Ivan Nagaev led Malta’s scoring with five goals from the team’s total of 14, while Liam Galea contributed four. Captain Stevie Camilleri added three goals, and Matthew Zammit and rookie Alec Fenech chipped in with one goal each.
The result came amid heightened scrutiny after match-fixing allegations involving the team were reported by the Times of Malta in the days leading up to the tournament. Despite the attention, Malta secured victories over Slovenia, Slovakia, and Israel to finish 13th, marking their best performance at a European Championship.
